Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about therapy fees, insurance, hours, and working with The Nickel Collective in Brookfield, Wisconsin.
Fees & Insurance
HOW MUCH DOES THERAPY COST?
$185 per 50-minute session. Payment is due at the time of service. I accept credit and debit cards through the online secure client portal.
DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?
No, I don't accept insurance directly. However, I provide superbills that you can submit to your insurance company on your own if you'd like to explore out-of-network reimbursement.
WHY DON’T YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?
I'm a private-pay practice by choice, and here's why:
Confidentiality: Insurance companies require detailed treatment notes and progress updates. Private pay means your therapy stays between you and me.
No Diagnosis Required: Insurance requires a mental health diagnosis to cover treatment. While I can provide a diagnosis if it's helpful (for your superbill or other purposes), it's not required to work together. We focus on what you need—not what insurance mandates.
Flexibility: We work at your pace on your goals, without insurance-driven session limits or treatment restrictions.
CAN I USE MY HSA OR FSA?
Not at this time. However, therapy is typically an eligible HSA/FSA expense, so you may be able to seek reimbursement on your own.

About the Therapy Process
WHAT IF I'VE TRIED THERAPY BEFORE AND IT DIDN'T WORK?
That's really common. Most therapy approaches focus on managing symptoms, not addressing root causes. If past therapy felt like a bandaid on a deeper issue, that's not a reflection on you—it means the approach wasn't a good fit.
My approach is different: we rebuild the foundation using neurodivergent-informed, evidence-based strategies designed for high-achieving professionals.
DO I NEED A FORMAL ADHD DIAGNOSIS TO WORK WITH YOU?
No. Many of my clients struggle with executive function challenges, time management, or focus issues without a formal diagnosis. If you relate to the symptoms, we can work together.
DO YOU PROVIDE DIAGNOSES?
Yes, if it's helpful for you. Insurance companies require a diagnosis for reimbursement, so if you're submitting a superbill for out-of-network benefits, I can provide one.
However, a diagnosis is not required to work with me. Many of my clients don't have (or want) a formal diagnosis—they just know they're struggling with burnout, anxiety, ADHD symptoms, or overwhelm. We can work together either way.
DO YOU PROVIDE ADHD TESTING OR NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL TESTING?
No, I don't conduct neuropsychological testing or formal ADHD evaluations. If you need testing, I can provide referrals to qualified providers.
DO YOU PRESCRIBE MEDICATION?
No, I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor in Training (LPC-IT), not a psychiatrist or prescriber. However, I can provide referrals to psychiatric providers if medication might be helpful as part of your treatment plan.
HOW LONG DOES THERAPY TAKE?
That depends on your goals. Some clients see significant shifts in 3-4 months. Others work with me for a year or more to create deeper, lasting change.
We'll check in regularly about your progress and adjust as needed. You're in control.
CAN I JUST TRY ONE SESSION?
Absolutely. After your free Clarity Call, we'll schedule your first session. If it doesn't feel like the right fit, no hard feelings.
That said, meaningful change usually takes more than one session. Most clients start seeing shifts within the first month.
Logistics
WHAT IF I NEED TO CANCEL OR RESCHEDULE?
Life happens. I ask for 24-hour notice for cancellations or reschedules. Late cancellations (less than 24 hours) are subject to a fee.
WILL MY SESSIONS BE CONFIDENTIAL?
Absolutely. Everything we discuss is confidential, with a few legal exceptions (risk of harm to self or others, child/elder abuse, or court order). We'll review confidentiality in detail during your first session.
WHAT IF I'M NOT SURE THERAPY IS RIGHT FOR ME?
That's exactly what the clarity call is for. We'll talk through what you're experiencing, and I'll be honest about whether therapy—or specifically, working with me—is the right fit.
If it's not, I'm happy to suggest other resources.
